Waukesha 4th of July Parade

The City of Waukesha is having the Waukesha 4th of July parade in 2023! The annual 4th of July parade will take place in Downtown Waukesha on Monday, July 4th starting at 11:00 am, with the theme “United We Rock”.

In a press release on April 18, 2023, the City of Waukesha states:

The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Dept. is proud to announce the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, together with the 610 Stompers,
are scheduled to take part in the City of Waukesha’s Independence Day Parade on Tues., July 4, 2023. The 610 Stompers, from New Orleans, La. promote themselves as “Ordinary Men with Extraordinary Moves” and have become a supporter of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies.

“We are thrilled the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, together with the 610 Stompers, will make an appearance in Waukesha’s Independence Day Parade,” said Mayor Shawn Reilly. “Their friendship and support happened after the Christmas Parade tragedy. It will be wonderful to see the two groups come together again in support of the Waukesha community at our Independence Day parade.”

The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies and the 610 Stompers will be honored with a proclamation on July 3, 2023 when they visit with Mayor Reilly.

Please note that the parade route has changed for 2023. The new parade route is being put into place for several reasons including:

· Strategic placement of the City’s Mobile Vehicle Barriers (MVBs)

· Direct access for emergency services

· Additional and closer parking options for attendees including access to the City’s South Street parking ramp and downtown municipal lots.

· Improved traffic flow around the event which will help to reduce traffic congestion before, during, and after the event.

The City will continue to establish a secure perimeter along the route with parking restrictions in place along the parade route. As each parade approaches, the City will communicate to the public the times the perimeter will be in effect.

The City of Waukesha announces Mon., July 3, 2023, shall be known as Dancing Grannies and 610 Stompers Day in Waukesha. Both performing groups will be in the City’s Independence Day parade, “United We Rock,” on Tues., July 4, 2023. The Dancing Grannies and the 610 Stompers will attend a press conference on Mon., July 3 at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall for the reading of the proclamation which will be followed by a group performance.

“The City of Waukesha is honored to have both the Dancing Grannies and the 610 Stompers come together in our Independence Day parade,” said Mayor Shawn Reilly. “On November 21, 2021, we experienced as a community great loss and injury. Since then, we have endeavored to honor those lost and injured by joining together to share our grief and to provide comfort to those who are heartbroken. Watching the Dancing Grannies and the 610 Stompers sashaying through our parade will help us recognize that joy, resilience, and friendship will help us heal as individuals and as a community. I know that we will provide the Dancing Grannies and the 610 Stompers with a hearty Waukesha welcome.”

The City’s Independence Day parade, presented by Couri Insurance, takes place in downtown Waukesha Tues., July 4, 2023.

Bring your friends and family to a traditional hometown celebration featuring marching bands, floats, and a sea of bikes, trikes and wagons.

Waukesha 4th of July Parade and Schedule:

• 9:30 to 10:00 am – Line-Up in the area of Cutler Park
• 11:00 am – Parade Begins
• Free Ice Cream will be distributed to all children that participate in the parade! *Sponsored by the Waukesha Kiwanis Early Risers

Community organizations, families, and businesses are encouraged to enter a float into the parade.  Deadline to register is Friday, June 2, 2023.

Children’s Bike Unit

Children will have an opportunity to participate in the parade by decorating their bikes, trikes, buggies, wagons, and themselves! Children and their parents can line up in Cutler Park beginning at 10:00 am. Bike helmets are strongly recommended. Groups and families are encouraged to enter floats in the parade that reflect the theme “Looking Back – Reaching Forward” and meet the minimum standards. No application for the Children’s Unit is required.

Children are welcome to participate in the Children’s Bike Unit for the City of Waukesha’s July 4^th parade. No registration is required.

Please note:

• Line up begins at 10 a.m. in Cutler Park, 321 Wisconsin Ave. Please look for the Children’s Unit Line Up sign. Parade steps off at 11:00 a.m.
• Children will receive a participant ribbon.
• Children and families are encouraged to decorate their bikes, trikes, strollers, or themselves.
• Bike helmets are encouraged.
• Motorized units (battery powered or otherwise) are NOT
• Parents are welcome to stay with their children.
• Please remind children on bikes/trikes must stay with the unit and not get ahead of or behind the unit for everyone’s safety.
• Restrooms are located in Cutler Park.
• At the end of the parade, you will be directed to proceed down Grand Ave. to Carroll St. or the Library parking lot to regroup. Everyone must get off of Grand Ave. so that the parade may continue advancing.
• Have fun!

PLEASE NOTE:  NO MOTORIZED ENTRIES IN THE CHILDREN’S UNIT WILL BE ALLOWED.

Please note: City Ordinance 11.22 (i.) & (j.) prohibit dogs in the park.
