WBCS was founded as a charitable organization in 1998, with the intent of raising funds to advance breast cancer research. One might even say it began on a wing and a prayer, with its founder, Nancé Kinney a then recent breast cancer survivor, marshaling a small group of friends to help her create a WBCS Showhouse as a means to raise those funds.
Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse, Inc. (WBCS) began with a woman’s passion to defeat breast cancer. Founded in 1998 as an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization by then-recent survivor, Nancé Kinney, its mission from the beginning has been to support early-stage breast cancer research. Kinney’s father was later diagnosed with prostate cancer, and WBCS soon added prostate cancer research as a second important research focus.

This month’s feature in the year-long series marking the 25th Anniversary of the founding of WBCS, Inc. is the 2004 Showhouse for a Cure, the seventh annual WBCS Showhouse. The stunning home of Suzanne Spenner-Hupy, Michael Hupy and their children, it provided a magnificent Lake Michigan setting and beautiful architecture to inspire both the 2004 Showhouse designers and the visiting public.
